Summary
Basavanna uses the image of a filled treasury and an unpaid due to teach that what has been received from Linga cannot remain locked within the seeker. If the treasury is full, one cannot depart without paying what is owed. In the same way, spiritual wealth must move into offering.
The vachana then states the principle directly: if one is truly related to Linga, one must become a lover of Jangama. Without this love and offering toward Jangama, the transforming power is not obtained. Kudala Sangama Deva abides fully in Jangama; therefore, devotion to Linga must naturally become love and Dasoha toward Jangama.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The first image is the filled treasury. Basavanna speaks of a treasury that has been filled. This suggests accumulated wealth, not in the ordinary sense alone, but whatever has been received through grace, devotion, understanding, and spiritual life. The filled treasury cannot remain sealed as private possession.
The second image is the due that must be paid before departure. Basavanna says one cannot go away without paying what is owed. The point is not worldly tax, but spiritual responsibility. What has been received must return through offering. Possession without circulation leaves the process incomplete.
The third image is relation to Linga. Basavanna says that if one is truly connected with Linga, one must become a lover of Jangama. This makes Jangama-love the test of Linga-relation. The inward bond with Linga must show itself in living reverence toward Jangama.
The fourth image is the transforming power that cannot be obtained otherwise. If one does not become Jangama-loving, the power that transforms the seeker does not arise. Realization that remains closed within the self cannot become complete.
The final image is Kudala Sangama Deva abiding fully in Jangama. This explains the whole vachana. Jangama is not outside the field of the Divine. The Lord sought through Linga is present in Jangama. Therefore, offering to Jangama is not separate from devotion to Kudala Sangama Deva.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches that Linga-relation must mature into Jangama-love. Inner realization is not complete if it remains enclosed as personal spiritual wealth.
For Sharana Sthala, the practice-point is direct: open the treasury. What has been received from Linga must flow toward Jangama through love, reverence, and Dasoha. Since Kudala Sangama Deva abides in Jangama, this movement completes devotion rather than diverting it.
Editorial Commentary
The image of tax or due should not be read as a commercial transaction. Basavanna uses it to express the necessity of offering. The treasury is fulfilled not by remaining full, but by opening toward Jangama.
