Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna warns that bhakti joined with pride becomes the beginning of karma. Devotion may be present in name, but pride changes its movement.

Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana tests the inner condition behind devotion. Practice must not become a possession of the one who performs it.
The warning against pride in bhakti shows that even devotion can become binding when it strengthens self-importance.
The practical movement here is humble recognition. Basavanna asks the seeker to know the inner meaning of practice and to recognize the moment when it must be lived before Kudalasangama Deva.
Editorial Commentary
This vachana should be read as a warning against proud devotion. Basavanna does not reject bhakti or action. He rejects bhakti made proud, action made empty, and spiritual opportunity left unrecognized.
