The Neighbor’s Sorrow

Poetic Rendering

Why grieve over the neighbor’s wandering ways?
First heal the pain lodged in your own body;
First quiet the unrest rising in your own mind.
O Kudalasangama,
why let my heart burn for another’s confusion
when even this sorrow is born of my own ego?
For You take no delight in suffering
not in the neighbor across the wall,
not in the Anga that forgets its Linga,
not in the seeker lost in another path.
Only when the self is stilled,
when the inner wound is mended,
does perception change on its own
and then even the neighbor
needs no rescuing from me.
