The “ornaments” are not additions but revelations of the innate divine qualities (Linga-gunas) that emerge when consciousness is polished by the frictionless practice of remembrance.
Historical Reality (Anubhava Mantapa Context): In 12th-century Kalyana, external signs of piety sacred threads, tilaks, specific robes were markers of social and ritual status. Basavanna interiorizes and revolutionizes this. For the Sharanas, the true markers were these invisible, experiential “ornaments” of remembrance. This created an egalitarian spiritual aristocracy: anyone, regardless of birth, could wear this divine armor. It also provided practical resilience against the social persecution and slander the community faced, offering an inner refuge (smarana-kavacha) that no external power could strip away.

Anga (Human Dimension): The human as the living mannequin or display form. The value is not in the mannequin itself, but in the priceless jewels it displays. The Anga’s purpose is to showcase the Linga’s glory through conscious adornment. Without the jewels, it is an empty form.
Linga (Divine Principle): Koodalasangamadeva as the sole precious substance (gold, gem) and the designer of the set. The Linga is both the material and the design intelligence of the spiritual life. Remembrance is the act of accepting and wearing this divine design.
Jangama (Dynamic Interaction): The light reflecting off the moving jewels. As the adorned person moves through the world, the light of remembrance catches different facets, scattering divine awareness into every interaction and circumstance. The Jangama is this dynamic radiance in action.
Shata Sthala
Primary Sthala: AIKYA. The state described Sanhita (united) and Linga-Śikhamani (crest-jewel)is the fruition of Aikya. The ornaments are not “worn” as separate items but are experienced as the innate, luminous properties of the unified consciousness. The “protections” are automatic; the consciousness cannot hear blasphemy as separate, cannot bow to another, because only the One exists.
Supporting Sthala: SHARANA. The Sharana actively cultivates this state. They practice wearing the ornaments through disciplined remembrance (nitya smarana), using them as tools to shape their consciousness toward the day when the tools dissolve into the unified state they helped create.

Arivu (Awareness Practices): Practice “Sense-Gate Armoring.” In meditation, visualize each sense organ adorned with its specific jewel of remembrance. Achara (Personal Discipline): Create “Remembrance Triggers” linked to body parts. Let the feeling of your watch or bracelet (wrist) trigger remembrance of Kayaka. Let adjusting a collar (neck) trigger remembrance of the indwelling Linga. Physical sensations become cues for spiritual state.
Kayaka (Sacred Action): Let your work be the visible bangle. Perform tasks with such mindful presence and integrity that the “shine” of your remembrance is evident in the quality of the result, offering a silent teaching to others.
Dasoha (Communal Offering): Share the craft of adornment. Teach others this method of armoring through remembrance. Create community rituals that reinforce these protections, strengthening the collective spiritual resilience.
Modern Application
The digital assault on the senses incessant noise, divisive speech, images that trigger comparison and lack. We are psychologically naked to these attacks. We try to armor ourselves with cynicism, filters, and escapism, which are ineffective or damaging.
Use this vachana as a guide for digital and psychological hygiene. Put on the “earrings” before scrolling: “I will not intake speech that degrades the divine in others.” Clasp the “necklace” before a meeting: “My loyalty is to truth, not to winning.” This inner armor allows you to engage the world without being corrupted by it. It transforms social media and news from sources of agitation into fields for practicing discernment and steadfast remembrance.

We feel vulnerable, adaptable to the point of formlessness, constantly shaped by external forces. This creates anxiety. We seek armor in identities, opinions, and possessions, which are rigid and brittle. This vachana offers a third way: armor through conscious self-definition by alignment with the eternal. It answers the deep need for both protection and authenticity. The liberation is not in becoming invulnerable stone, but in becoming a beautiful, specific, and resilient crystal of consciousness unique in form yet essentially one with the source of all water.
