Vachana 482 — You Alone Are There

Summary

Basavanna declares that Kudalasangama Deva alone is present through adversity, joy, and sorrow. Changing experience does not lead him toward another refuge.

He also recognizes the Lord as both father and mother, gathering protection, nourishment, and belonging into the same Divine presence.

The Aikya concern is constancy: circumstances change, but Kudalasangama Deva does not become absent or divided.

Imagery & Symbolic Relevance

Adversity, joy, and sorrow present contrasting conditions of life. Basavanna does not assign one condition to Divine nearness and another to Divine absence.

The declaration “there is no other” removes a second dependence. The seeker does not turn elsewhere when experience changes.

The invocation “Hara, Hara” gives devotional immediacy to this recognition. It keeps the mind directed toward the one Lord.

Father and mother bring together the relations of protection, care, origin, and nourishment. Both are recognized in Kudalasangama Deva.

Lingayoga

In Lingayoga, the Anga must not judge Linga-presence according to pleasure or pain.

Joy is not proof of greater nearness, and sorrow is not proof of abandonment. Both are lived before the same Kudalasangama Deva.

The practice-point is to remain turned toward Linga in every condition without seeking another refuge.

Sharana Sthala Vachana 695 — No Doer, No Claim

Sharana Vachana 695 prepares this teaching by refusing to interpret joy as personal merit or sorrow as personal sin. The Sharana does not build pride, guilt, or ownership from changing experience.

Aikya Vachana 482 deepens that steadiness. Joy and sorrow are not merely released from personal claim; Kudalasangama Deva is recognized as the one presence through both.

Aikya Sthala Vachana 960 — Inner and Outer, Self and World: One Alone

Vachana 482 removes division across adversity, joy, sorrow, fatherhood, and motherhood.

Vachana 960 widens this recognition to inner and outer, self and world. What is realized through changing conditions in Vachana 482 deepens into a field where nothing stands outside Kudalasangama Deva.
