Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna teaches that joining with Kudalasangama Deva requires the cleansing of the whole embodied field. The eye must first be cleared of dirt before it can see.
The hand must be washed before it can touch rightly. The feet must be washed before they can approach or arrive. Seeing, touching, and moving are therefore tested through purity.
Because the head and all limbs are cleansed, Kudalasangama Deva joins him. The teaching is direct: partial cleansing is not enough; the whole being must become fit for union.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The eye is the first image. Dirt in the eye prevents clear seeing. Basavanna uses this to show that perception must be cleansed before truth can be seen.
The hand is the second image. An unwashed hand is not fit to touch. This points to action and contact: the seeker must not approach the sacred through an unclean mode of engagement.
The feet are the third image. Unless they are washed, they are not fit to arrive. The path itself requires purified movement and direction.
The cleansing of the head and all limbs completes the vachana. Basavanna does not isolate one faculty alone. Seeing, touching, moving, and the whole bodily field must be cleansed.
The final image is joining. Kudalasangama Deva’s joining is not shown as distant or external. It becomes possible when the whole embodied being is made clear.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches purification of perception, action, and movement. The seeker must not treat devotion as inward feeling alone while the faculties remain uncorrected.
Clear seeing, clean action, and right movement must come together. When the whole being is purified, union with Kudalasangama Deva is no longer merely spoken of; it becomes inwardly possible.
Editorial Commentary
This vachana should not be reduced to external washing alone. Basavanna uses bodily cleansing to show the fitness required for sacred contact.
The eye, hand, and feet are practical images. They show how the seeker sees, touches, and moves through life. When these are purified together with the whole body, joining with Kudalasangama Deva becomes the natural result.

When the courtyard is overgrown, the house is filled with dust, the body with falseness, and the mind with sense-objects, the Master is not felt within. Vachana 912 carries this concern into Maheshwara Sthala: the eye, hand, feet, head, and all limbs must be cleansed before Kudalasangama Deva joins the seeker.

Prasadi Sthala Vachana 990 — Transformed Through the Touch of Grace
Vachana 990 advances this teaching by showing complete purification through the company of Kudalasangama Deva’s Mahānubhāvas. There, the body becomes pure, the mind becomes pure, wealth becomes pure, and the whole being becomes pure.
Vachana 912 teaches that the faculties and limbs must be cleansed for joining with Kudalasangama Deva. Vachana 990 carries this into Prasadi Sthala by showing purification fulfilled through realized company and grace, until no part of the seeker remains outside the transforming touch.
