Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna says that being a queen in a king’s house is not as good as being a servant in a Bhakta’s house.
He then contrasts two kinds of household. In one, people are ordered to bring vessels, give plates, and prepare the offering for the Linga.
In Kudalasangama’s great house, the call is different: the servant is invited to eat and belong. True nobility is found not in royal status, but in nearness to the house of devotion.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The queen in the king’s house is the first image. It represents high worldly position, but Basavanna does not treat it as the highest good.
The servant in the Bhakta’s house gives the reversal. A low place in the house of devotion is better than a high place in worldly power.
The commands to bring vessels and plates show formal service. Sacred offering may be present, but the atmosphere remains one of order, distance, and command.
The offering to the Linga is important. Basavanna is not rejecting Linga-worship; he is distinguishing between formal handling and living fellowship.
Kudalasangama’s Mahamane gives the final image. It is the great house where the servant is not kept at a distance.
Eating in that house completes the teaching. Food becomes the sign of inclusion, shared nearness, and belonging among those who live in devotion.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana tests the seeker’s measure of honor.
The practice-point is direct: do not seek greatness through rank, royal nearness, or commanded service. Enter the Bhakta’s house as servant, and receive the shared life of Kudalasangama Deva’s Mahamane.
For Sharana Sthala, this is dignity through humble belonging.
Editorial Commentary
The contrast is between royal elevation and devotional nearness. Basavanna does not make authority the measure of worth. He makes servant-belonging in the Bhakta’s house greater, because there the seeker enters a living field of offering, food, and shared relation before Kudalasangama Deva.
