Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna says again and again that he has wandered and shifted.
He then says again and again that he has broken and scattered.
Now he remains alone. Before Kudalasangama Deva, he names the cause: this has happened because he became separated from the Lord’s Sharanas.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The repeated wandering is the first image. It shows movement without steadiness.
The repeated breaking is the second image. What should have remained whole has become fractured.
The repeated scattering deepens the condition. The seeker is no longer gathered in one direction.
Aloneness is the final visible state. This is not the solitude of inward abidance, but the loneliness that follows separation from the Sharanas.
The cause is stated directly. Basavanna does not blame others or fate. He says this condition has come because he strayed from Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.
The force of the vachana lies in the sequence: wandering, breaking, scattering, and being left alone.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches vigilance toward Sharana-sanga.
The practice-point is direct: do not drift away from the Sharanas who steady remembrance. When that nearness is lost, the mind does not remain whole; it wanders, breaks, scatters, and stands alone before Kudalasangama Deva.
For Sharana Sthala, this is the confession of what separation from the Sharanas does to the seeker.
Editorial Commentary
The repetitions should be preserved as the main force of the vachana. Basavanna is not giving many images; he is pressing one confession until its consequence becomes clear. The final line gives the key: the condition arises from separation from Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

Supporting Vachana
Pranalingi Sthala Vachana 359 — The Faithful Dog at the Door of Remembrance
Pranalingi Vachana 359 supports this teaching by asking Kudalasangama Deva to keep the seeker in the house of remembrance like a faithful dog, near and watchful. Vachana 370 shows the opposite condition in Sharana Sthala: when the seeker strays from the Lord’s Sharanas, remembrance loses its house, the self scatters, and aloneness remains.
Advancing Vachana
Aikya Sthala Vachana 756 — The Queen in the Inner Chamber
Aikya Vachana 756 advances this teaching by showing that after knowing, turning back and allowing doubt creates another road and inner ruin. Vachana 370 confesses the broken aloneness caused by straying from the Sharanas; Aikya Vachana 756 carries the same danger into Aikya and gives the fulfilled corrective: remain undivided, like the queen in the inner chamber, before Kudalasangama Deva.
