Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna asks what has caused the bondage of becoming and the noose of worldly life.
He does not place the cause outside himself. He traces it to forgetting the Linga and neglecting the Jangama.
The confession is severe: if he had known the burden that would follow, would he have entered samsara in this way? The teaching is direct: bondage begins when sacred relation is forgotten.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The noose of becoming is the central image. A noose binds by tightening around the one caught in it. Basavanna uses it to show how worldly life becomes bondage when awareness loses its sacred center.
Forgetting the Linga means losing inward anchoring in Kudalasangama Deva. The Divine center is not denied, but forgotten; that forgetfulness itself becomes dangerous.
Neglecting the Jangama means failing to honor living sacred presence. The Jangama stands before the seeker as moving realization, yet the seeker turns away.
The final question carries the force of regret. Basavanna now sees that the burden was not accidental. It arose from a broken relation to Linga and Jangama.
The imagery therefore teaches that samsara is not merely outer life. It becomes a noose when sacred remembrance and living recognition are lost.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, Anga must remain joined to Linga and receptive to Jangama. When either relation is forgotten, practice loses its living axis.
This vachana shows the cost of spiritual lapse. The seeker may continue within ordinary life, but without Linga-remembrance and Jangama-recognition, that life becomes heavy and binding.
The correction is also implied. Release begins by restoring the relation that was broken: inward remembrance of the Linga and reverence toward the Jangama.

Maheshwara Vachana 10 — The Rat’s Snare
The noose of becoming in Vachana 7 advances into the rat’s snare of Maheshwara Vachana 10. What is confessed here as bondage becomes, in the next movement, the tighter trap formed by action without sacred awareness.
