Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna rejects the false sign that promises a pot of gold where the crow has defiled.
He does not ask to become something that misleads through promise or appearance.
Before Kudalasangama Deva, he asks for one grace alone: to be made the sandals at the feet of the Lord’s Sharanas.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The crow’s defilement is the first image. It points to what is impure, ordinary, and without real treasure.
The pot of gold is the false attraction. Basavanna exposes the danger of treating a misleading sign as though it were spiritual wealth.
The refusal to become such a sign is the inward correction. He does not want to draw others through empty promise.
The sandals are the central image of humility. They remain below, close to the feet, and serve the path.
The feet of the Sharanas give the true place of nearness. Basavanna does not ask for gold, status, or recognition, but for contact with the path walked by Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.
The one requested boon completes the vachana. All desire is gathered into a single prayer: let him serve at the feet of the Sharanas.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana tests the difference between false indication and true service.
The practice-point is direct: do not become a sign that promises treasure without substance. Seek the humble place that serves the movement of Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.
For Sharana Sthala, this is humility made useful at the feet of the realized ones.
Editorial Commentary
The vachana turns from deception to service. The crow-and-gold image exposes false spiritual value; the sandal image gives the corrected desire. Basavanna’s prayer is not for treasure, but for the lowest useful place in relation to Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

Pranalingi Sthala Vachana 1049 — The Service of Undivided Devotion
Pranalingi Vachana 1049 sets aside worldly display and ceremonial accomplishment, choosing instead undivided servanthood at Kudalasangama Deva’s feet.
This prepares Vachana 362, where Basavanna rejects the false promise of treasure and asks for the humblest useful place—as sandals at the feet of the Sharanas.
Advancing Vachana
Aikya Sthala Vachana 1192 — Jangama Seva Is the Eternal Path
Aikya Vachana 1192 advances this teaching by showing Jangama Seva as Guru-puja, Linga-puja, sustenance, true nature, the Self, and the Eternal State. Vachana 362 asks for the grace of becoming sandals at the feet of the Sharanas; Aikya Vachana 1192 carries that servant-place into the mature state where service to living realization becomes the very path and state of Aikya before Kudalasangama Deva.
