Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna teaches that wealth cannot become sacred merely by being donated.
Wealth earned through sin is not fit for a worthy recipient. Its defect lies in its source.
He gives the image of dog’s milk: it cannot become pañcāmṛta. In the same way, wealth gained wrongly cannot become meaningful offering. What is given to Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas must arise from pure earning.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
Sinful wealth is the first image. It represents gain acquired through wrongful action.
Basavanna does not treat such wealth as purified by later charity. If the root is impure, the offering remains unfit.
The worthy recipient, satpātra, gives the teaching its ethical measure. A sacred recipient cannot make corrupt wealth clean.
Dog’s milk is the second image. However one may try to place it among sacred substances, it cannot become pañcāmṛta.
Pañcāmṛta represents ritual fitness and purity. Its sanctity depends on the suitability of what enters it.
The Sharanas of Kudalasangama Deva are the final measure. Wealth has meaning only when it is rightly earned and rightly used in their service.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, offering begins before the act of giving.
The Anga must examine how wealth is earned, not only where it is offered. Kayaka and Dasoha cannot be separated.
Pure Kayaka makes Dasoha possible. Impure gain cannot become sacred by being redirected at the end.
Practice matures when livelihood, intention, and offering become one continuous discipline before Kudalasangama Deva.
Editorial Commentary
This vachana rejects the idea that charity can cleanse corrupt earning.
Basavanna places spiritual responsibility at the source of wealth, not merely at the moment of donation.
