COMPREHENSIVE INTERPRETIVE, EDITORIAL AND DIGITAL PUBLICATION DISCLAIMER

This book, its associated volumes, audio presentations, translations, explanations, classifications, cross-references, website content and related digital materials are offered as a sincere interpretive study, spiritual resource and practical guide for reflection upon the Vachanas of Basavanna.

The work seeks to help readers recognise the inward movement of each Vachana, the condition of bondage it may expose, the transformation it may call for, and its possible relationship with Bhakta, Maheshwara, Prasadi, Pranalingi, Sharana and Aikya Sthalas.

It does not claim to present the final, exclusive, universally binding or infallible interpretation of Basavanna’s Vachanas. The Vachanas arise from Anubhava and may contain spiritual, ethical, social, poetic, relational and metaphysical meanings that cannot be exhausted by a single explanation.

This publication should therefore be approached as an invitation to study, self-examination, dialogue and lived transformation—not as a declaration that every interpretive question has been permanently settled.

The original Kannada Vachana remains the primary and governing source.

Translations, transliterations, summaries, titles, explanations, thematic headings, Lingayoga relevance, editorial commentaries, Supporting Vachanas and Advancing Vachanas are aids provided for understanding. They should not be treated as replacements for the original Kannada.

Where uncertainty, difference or tension arises between the Kannada source and a translation, summary or explanation, readers are encouraged to return to the original Kannada and, where appropriate, consult competent Kannada scholars, Vachana researchers, practitioners and recognised textual sources.

The sound, cadence, brevity, cultural memory, wordplay, devotional intensity and spiritual force of a Vachana may not pass completely into another language.

Translation is an interpretive bridge. It is not a mechanical transfer in which every word in one language necessarily possesses a complete and exact equivalent in another.

Certain Kannada expressions may carry several shades of meaning depending upon grammatical structure, historical usage, context, spiritual tradition, poetic force and their relationship with other Vachanas. Terms such as Linga, Anga, Jangama, Prasada, Anubhava, Arivu, Achara, Kayaka, Dasoha, Bhava, Maya, Sharana, Aikya and Niravaya may not be fully represented by a single English word.

Transliterations are intended to assist pronunciation and recognition. They should not be treated as substitutes for knowledge of Kannada script or as final linguistic authorities.

Differences among translations do not necessarily imply error or bad faith. They may arise from different source editions, textual readings, grammatical understandings, philosophical approaches or attempts to preserve either literal meaning or spiritual cadence.

English titles assigned to individual Vachanas are editorial aids intended to identify their principal movement. Unless expressly stated otherwise, such titles are not part of the original Vachana.

The concise summaries, imagery explanations, Lingayoga relevance, editorial commentaries, Supporting Vachanas and Advancing Vachanas represent the interpretive framework of this work.

A summary necessarily condenses. It cannot contain every possible meaning of a Vachana. An explanation may clarify one principal movement while another reader or scholar may identify an additional legitimate dimension.

No editorial title, summary, explanation or commentary should be quoted or represented as though it were Basavanna’s exact original wording.

The placement of Vachanas within Bhakta, Maheshwara, Prasadi, Pranalingi, Sharana and Aikya represents the writer’s understanding of the principal transformative movement of each Vachana.

The classification is intended to offer an accessible living map. It is not intended to confine a Vachana permanently within one category.

A single Vachana may awaken devotion, correct conduct, purify receiving, deepen remembrance, reveal surrender and point towards non-separation at the same time. Its principal placement therefore does not deny its relevance to another Sthala or spiritual principle.

The six Sthalas must not be used as ranks of superiority, permanent labels, institutional titles or certificates of personal attainment. They should not be used to declare, “I am higher,” “another person is lower,” or “I have completed this stage.”

Shatsthala is presented as a means of self-examination and transformation, not as a system for judging the spiritual condition of another person.

The designations Supporting Vachana and Advancing Vachana are editorial relationships created to assist study and reveal continuity among the Vachanas.

A Supporting Vachana may reveal an underlying cause, related condition, earlier movement or complementary understanding.

An Advancing Vachana may show how that condition is corrected, deepened, transformed or carried towards fulfilment.

These relationships are not claimed to have been formally arranged by Basavanna in the same sequence. They are not additional Vachanas and do not alter the original teaching or independent completeness of any Vachana.

The number of Supporting and Advancing relationships shown in the book, charts or website reflects the interpretive and cross-referencing structure of this project. Such numerical relationships should not be treated as a scriptural hierarchy, mathematical proof of spiritual importance, or ranking of one Vachana above another.

Where these relationships are revised through further textual, linguistic or interpretive examination, the individual Vachana references and corresponding totals may be corrected accordingly.

Vachana wording, spelling, punctuation, line division, numbering and attribution may differ among manuscripts, printed collections, institutional editions, scholarly publications and digital sources.

The Vachana numbers used in this work are identifiers corresponding to the source arrangement and editorial system followed for this project. They should not automatically be assumed to correspond with the numbering used in every other publication.

Where variant readings exist, this work does not claim to have resolved every textual question or to constitute a complete critical edition based upon all surviving manuscripts and textual traditions.

Readers engaged in formal academic, philological, historical or textual research should compare the relevant source editions, manuscript traditions and recognised scholarly studies.

The Lingayoga relevance provided for individual Vachanas is intended to show how their teaching may enter remembrance, conduct, work, relationship, offering, surrender and recognition of Linga.

It is not intended to create a rigid technical system where the Vachana itself does not provide such detail.

The work seeks to avoid imposing unrelated modern theories or external philosophical systems upon the Vachanas. Nevertheless, every explanation remains an act of interpretation and may be refined through better linguistic evidence, deeper understanding, Anubhava or responsible scholarly examination.

Where a Kannada term does not clearly establish a particular doctrinal list, ritual structure, metaphysical category, bodily centre or esoteric technique, an explanatory possibility should not be treated as an established statement of the original Vachana.

Historical and biographical discussions are included to provide context for Basavanna, the Sharanas, the Vachana movement, Kalyana, Mahamane, Anubhava Mantapa, Kayaka, Dasoha, equality, social reform and the preservation of Vachana literature.

These discussions are not presented as an exhaustive academic history of the twelfth century.

Historical accounts may differ regarding dates, names, sequence of events, institutional forms, biographies, attribution and interpretation.

Statements concerning historical personalities, institutions, traditions and events should therefore be understood within the educational and interpretive purpose of this work. Readers requiring specialised historical conclusions should consult primary sources and recognised scholarly research.

Images and symbols such as Nataraja, Apasmara, the serpent, ocean, fire, river, seed, tree, light, fragrance, poison, temple, body, household, work and offering are interpreted according to their relevance within the particular discussion.

Symbolic dialogue or comparison does not establish that two traditions, images, historical teachings or philosophical systems are identical.

For example, the symbolic restraint of Apasmara may be placed in dialogue with the overcoming of ignorance, forgetfulness and false identification. Such a comparison is interpretive and should not be treated as proof of historical dependence, doctrinal identity or complete equivalence.

Symbolic explanation must remain subordinate to the governing spiritual measure of compassion. Ignorance may be restrained and corrected, but the person affected by ignorance must not be subjected to hatred, humiliation, cruelty or violence.

The governing ethical measure of this work is expressed in Basavanna’s question:

“Dayavillada Dharma Yavudayya?” — What dharma can exist without compassion?

No passage in this book, its associated volumes or website should be used to promote hatred, caste superiority, untouchability, gender discrimination, sectarian hostility, religious contempt, violence, humiliation, social exclusion or denial of human dignity.

Criticism of ritualism, inherited privilege, hypocrisy, possessiveness, harmful custom, spiritual pride or false conduct must not be converted into hostility towards an entire community, gender, family structure, occupation or religious tradition.

References to Maya should not automatically be interpreted as condemnation of woman, motherhood, marriage, family, the body, the senses, wealth, temple, scripture or the world. The principal concern is the false relationship created by possessiveness, craving, pride, division, forgetfulness, self-claim and exploitation.

This work must not be used to replace one hierarchy with another or to create a new spiritual class claiming superiority in Basavanna’s name.

This work repeatedly presents spiritual truth as something that must become visible in conduct.

Readers are therefore requested not to use these explanations merely to criticise others, win arguments, display scholarship, defend identity or claim spiritual advancement.

Maheshwara Sthala Vachana 235 provides a practical measure: do not steal, do not kill, do not speak falsehood, do not surrender to anger, do not cause suffering to another, do not praise oneself and do not condemn another.

The interpretation of a Vachana should therefore be tested by whether it encourages truthfulness, non-harm, humility, responsible work, pure earning, equality, compassionate relationship, service and freedom from self-glorification.

Reading, purchasing, possessing, quoting, translating, publishing, reciting, recording or explaining these Vachanas does not by itself confer spiritual authority, initiation, realisation, institutional office, religious status, or the condition of Bhakta, Maheshwara, Prasadi, Pranalingi, Sharana or Aikya.

This work does not authorise the writer, publisher, website administrator, translator, narrator, contributor or reader to declare another person spiritually inferior or unqualified.

Nor is this work intended to replace the guidance of a realised teacher, the fellowship of sincere Sharanas, personal spiritual discipline, direct study of the Kannada Vachanas or responsible participation in a living community.

No contributor named in the acknowledgements should be assumed to endorse every interpretation, classification, translation, title or conclusion unless such endorsement has been expressly given.

The book, its associated volumes and website are intended for spiritual, literary, cultural, ethical and educational study, reflection and non-commercial sharing subject to the conditions stated in this disclaimer.

They do not provide personalised legal, medical, psychological, financial, political or other professional advice.

Readers facing such matters should obtain guidance from appropriately qualified professionals.

Spiritual teachings concerning suffering, body, mind, illness, death, livelihood, family or social conflict should not be used to discourage necessary medical care, lawful protection, professional counselling, financial prudence or responsible civic action.

Kannada audio recordings are devotional and interpretive renderings intended to preserve the living sound of the Vachanas and assist readers who wish to hear them.

Pronunciation, cadence, emphasis, melody, pacing and emotional expression may vary among speakers, regions, traditions and source readings.

An audio presentation is not claimed to represent the only correct manner of recitation. It should be received as one respectful rendering of the text.

Technical compression, recording conditions, playback equipment, browser settings or internet connectivity may affect sound quality.

The website is a means of access and study. It does not replace the original Kannada source or the complete printed work.

Search functions, hyperlinks, translations, audio, page design, cross-references and multilingual presentation may be corrected, expanded, reorganised or technically updated as improved readings, scholarly suggestions, linguistic insights or technical requirements arise.

Temporary errors may occur in search results, navigation, fonts, transliteration, audio playback, cross-linking, formatting or language display. Such errors should not automatically be treated as errors in the original Vachana.

The uninterrupted availability of the website, a particular page, language, audio file or technical feature cannot be guaranteed. Maintenance, software changes, security requirements, hosting conditions, internet failure or other technical circumstances may affect access.

Where a difference exists between a printed edition and a later digital presentation, readers should take note of the edition or version consulted and may refer to the latest clearly dated correction or revision.

This work remains open to responsible correction and refinement.

Improvements may be made to translation, transliteration, punctuation, spelling, titles, classification, commentary, historical context, pronunciation, website structure, Supporting and Advancing relationships, Vachana-number references and associated numerical totals.

A correction does not necessarily invalidate the entire work. It may reflect the continuing responsibility to bring an explanation, classification or reference closer to the Kannada source and the lived meaning of the Vachana.

Readers, scholars, translators, institutions, practitioners and Kannada experts are invited to offer specific corrections in the spirit of truth, humility, evidence, compassion and shared inquiry.

Corrections intended merely to insult, assert superiority, promote sectarian conflict or silence respectful inquiry do not serve the purpose of this project.

The Vachanas form part of a profound shared spiritual, literary and cultural heritage.

Modern editions, translations, commentaries, recordings, photographs, illustrations, artwork, fonts, software, website components and other materials may be protected by rights belonging to their respective authors, performers, institutions, publishers, creators or owners.

Acknowledgement of a person, publication, institution or source does not imply sponsorship, legal partnership, institutional approval or endorsement of every part of this work.

Every reasonable effort should be made to acknowledge source texts, scholars, preservers, translators, voice artists, technical contributors, photographers, artists, institutions and other contributors appropriately.

Any unintentional omission or incorrect attribution may be brought to the attention of the publisher or website administrator for examination and correction.

This work is offered in the spirit of Dasoha for educational, spiritual and non-commercial study and sharing, with proper acknowledgement of the work, its sources and relevant contributors.

No person should remove authorship, source information, acknowledgements, contextual notes or disclaimers in a manner that creates the impression that the material is their own original work.

Material from this work should not be selectively altered or presented in a manner that promotes hatred, political manipulation, commercial misrepresentation, caste superiority, sectarian propaganda or claims inconsistent with the principles of equality, compassion, Kayaka, Dasoha and non-separation.

Commercial reproduction, sale, republication, adaptation, broadcast, platform integration or substantial reuse of modern translations, recordings, explanations, illustrations, website content or editorial arrangements may require permission from the relevant rights holders.

Nothing in this disclaimer should be understood as granting rights that belong to another author, publisher, institution, artist, performer or rights holder.

The reader remains responsible for the manner in which this work is understood, quoted, taught, shared or applied.

No book, classification, website, translation or commentary can perform inward transformation on behalf of the reader. A map may indicate direction, but it cannot walk for the traveller.

Passages should be read in context and should not be selectively extracted to justify conclusions opposed to the wider movement of truthfulness, compassion, equality, non-harm, responsible work, service and non-separation.

The writer, editors, contributors, narrators, technical team, associated institutions and website administrators cannot accept responsibility for interpretations or actions arising from deliberate distortion, decontextualised quotation, discriminatory use or disregard of the qualifications and principles stated in this disclaimer.

Despite sincere effort, errors may remain in understanding, source selection, Kannada reading, translation, transliteration, grammar, spelling, numbering, classification, cross-reference, historical context, layout, audio, website presentation or technical implementation.

The writer accepts responsibility for the interpretations presented as his own and does not place that responsibility upon Basavanna, the Sharanas, acknowledged contributors or institutions mentioned in the work.

No claim is made that every explanation, translation, classification or conclusion will be accepted by every scholar, practitioner, translator, institution or tradition.

Differences of interpretation should be addressed through evidence, respectful dialogue, original-language study, humility and Anubhava—not through hostility or personal condemnation.

This disclaimer is not intended to weaken the spiritual purpose of the work.

It is intended to protect the Vachanas from being confined to a single explanation, claimed as personal property, used as instruments of superiority, or separated from the compassion and conduct that give them life.

The final measure of this work is not how widely it is praised, quoted, printed, downloaded or displayed. Its value lies in whether it helps awaken truthful speech, pure earning, dignified Kayaka, humble Dasoha, equality in relationship, compassion towards all living beings and recognition of Kudalasangama Deva without pride, ownership or separation.

Any errors are mine. Whatever truth awakens through these Vachanas belongs to Kudalasangama Deva and to the living Anubhava of Basavanna and the Sharanas.
