The Lizard’s Hue and the Primordial Light

Poetic Rendering

Like a lizard upon a garden wall,
my mind keeps changing its colors
shifting and turning without rest.
Like a blind bat wandering through the night,
it stirs with ceaseless thoughts
in darkness and in daylight alike.
And though I know I am blind,
yet in my dreams
my mind paints vivid pictures of light
visions it cannot truly see,
truth it cannot firmly hold.
In such a wavering state,
how can awareness stay steady?
How can the divine rise within me,
O Koodalasangamadeva?
