Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna asks that no one say, “Whose is he?” He does not want the soul to remain questioned, unnamed, or outside belonging.
Instead, he asks that they say, “He is ours.” The language shifts from separation to acceptance.
The final prayer gives the meaning: Basavanna asks Kudalasangama Deva to make him known as a child of the Divine house. The teaching is direct: the soul’s true identity is found in belonging to Kudalasangama Deva.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The repeated question “Whose is he?” represents uncertain identity. It is the language of the outsider, the unclaimed one, the one whose place is not yet known.
The repeated answer “He is ours” reverses that condition. The seeker is no longer left at the edge. He is received into nearness.
The house of Kudalasangama Deva is the central image. A house signifies shelter, intimacy, recognition, and rightful place.
To be called a child of that house means more than being accepted socially. It means the seeker’s identity is rooted in Divine belonging.
Basavanna is not asking for status. He asks for the end of separation.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, the Anga must discover its true belonging in Linga. Without this, identity remains tied to outer labels and uncertain claims.
This vachana shows that spiritual life is also a movement of being received. The seeker does not define himself by lineage, possession, or worldly group.
To belong to Kudalasangama Deva’s house is to live from another center. The soul no longer asks where it belongs; it rests in Divine relation.
Practice matures when belonging becomes inward certainty.
