Vachana 233- Spiritual Automation

Summary

In this vachana, Basavanna warns that repeated action can fail when the mind is absent.

Giving too can fail when it lacks truth. Quantity, frequency, and visible effort do not by themselves make an act worthy.

What matters is nijaguna, the true quality within doing and giving. When action and offering carry this inward truth, Kudalasangama Deva joins them.

Imagery & Symbolic Relevance

“Doing and doing” points to repeated activity. The act may continue outwardly, but without the mind it loses its living center.

“Giving and giving” points to repeated offering. Generosity may appear abundant, yet without truth it does not become sacred.

Basavanna’s concern is not the number of acts, but their inner quality. Nijaguna is the real measure.

It is the truth of the act, the sincerity of the intention, and the alignment between inner state and outer deed.

When nijaguna is present, doing and giving become fit for union. Kudalasangama Deva does not merely receive the form of the act; He joins what is truthful within it.

Lingayoga

In Lingayoga, practice must not continue without inward presence.

The Anga may perform worship, service, or offering, but the mind must be awake within the act.

Dāsoha too requires truth. Wealth, effort, and service must arise from inner alignment, not habit or display.

Practice matures when action, offering, and awareness carry the same quality before Kudalasangama Deva.

Editorial Commentary

This vachana tests action by nijaguna.

Basavanna asks not only what is done or given, but whether truth lives inside it.
