Vachana 364 — In the House of True Sharanas

Summary

In this vachana, Basavanna asks how he can claim to know the experience of what has happened or what has arisen by itself.

He places himself as a servant in the house of the pure Sharanas, those who make offering to Linga and Jangama.

For this reason, before Kudalasangama Deva, he says that he knows no one other than the Lord’s Sharanas.

Imagery & Symbolic Relevance

The question of knowing is the opening movement. Basavanna does not claim mastery over experience, event, or inner unfolding.

“What has happened” and “what has arisen by itself” point to the limit of self-claim. The seeker does not stand as controller or knower of all movement.

The house of the pure Sharanas is the central field. Basavanna does not choose an independent place for himself; he chooses the house where the Sharanas live and offer.

The offering to Linga and Jangama gives the character of that house. It is not merely domestic space, but a field of living worship and service.

Servanthood is Basavanna’s own place within it. He does not enter as one who knows, commands, or possesses; he enters as one who serves.

Knowing no one other than the Sharanas completes the vachana. His recognition, belonging, and refuge are gathered into Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

Lingayoga

In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches humility before experience and service within living realization.

The practice-point is direct: do not claim ownership over what happens or what arises. Remain as servant in the house where Linga and Jangama are honored through the pure Sharanas of Kudalasangama Deva.

For Sharana Sthala, this is knowing by belonging, not by self-claim.

Pranalingi Sthala Vachana 1049 — The Service of Undivided Devotion

Pranalingi Vachana 1049 establishes bhṛtyācāra, undivided servant-conduct shaped by Bhakti, Yukti, and Virakti.

This prepares Vachana 364, where Basavanna abandons self-claimed knowledge and becomes a servant in the house of the pure Sharanas who offer to Linga and Jangama. Undivided service matures into complete belonging among Kudalasangama’s Sharanas.

Advancing Vachana

Aikya Sthala Vachana 1190 — The Prasada of Jangama and the Prasada of Linga Are One

Aikya Vachana 1190 advances this teaching by revealing the indivisibility of Linga and Jangama: the true devotee knows Jangama as Prana-Linga, and the Prasada of Jangama cannot be separated from the Prasada of Linga. Vachana 364 places Basavanna as servant in the house where Linga and Jangama are served together; Aikya Vachana 1190 carries that service into the realized state where Linga and Jangama are known as one flow of grace before Kudalasangama Deva.
