Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna describes worship after the mind has seen the feet of Kudalasangama Deva. Once that seeing has occurred, the mind cannot turn away or endure separation.
The materials of worship become inward offerings. Supreme bliss becomes the water for the Lord’s feet. The heart becomes the lotus. Longing becomes ārati. Inner illumination becomes incense. Svānubhava becomes fragrance.
Basavanna then says that he knows no other meaning of Ashtavidha Archana and Shodashopachara apart from this inward worship. Through these offerings, Pranalinga becomes visible to him before Kudalasangama Deva.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The first image is the mind seeing the Lord’s feet. This marks refuge and nearness. After such seeing, separation becomes unbearable.
The second image is the water of supreme bliss. What is outwardly offered as water is inwardly fulfilled as Paramananda.
The third image is the heart-lotus. The flower of worship is no longer external; the heart itself is offered.
The fourth image is ārati performed through longing. The flame is not merely lifted by the hand; it rises from inward yearning.
The fifth image is the incense of great illumination. Awakening itself becomes the fragrant ascent of worship.
The sixth image is the fragrance of svānubhava. Direct inner experience becomes the scent offered to Kudalasangama Deva.
Together, these images show worship transformed from outer arrangement into inward realization.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches the inward fulfilment of worship. The seeker does not discard worship; the materials of worship become states of realized awareness.
For Pranalingi Sthala, the point is precise. Pranalinga is not known through outer form alone. It is seen when bliss, heart, longing, illumination, and direct experience become the offering.
The practice-point is direct: let the mind remain at Kudalasangama Deva’s feet. Let the heart become the lotus, longing the light, illumination the incense, and svānubhava the fragrance. In such worship, Pranalinga becomes visible.
Editorial Commentary
Ashtavidha Archana and Shodashopachara should remain close to the source. Basavanna does not reject these forms of worship. He says their meaning is fulfilled inwardly.
The final line is decisive. This inward worship is not merely devotional imagination; it is the way Basavanna says Pranalinga has become visible to him.

Prasadi Sthala Vachana 974 — The Inner Worship of the Eternal Linga
Prasadi Vachana 974 supports this teaching by transforming the full sequence of Linga-worship into inner worship. Sadachara and Satkriya become the ground, humility becomes the cleansing water, supreme bliss fills the inexhaustible vessel, the heart-lotus becomes the flower, Sadbhava becomes incense, Sujnana becomes the lamp, and Brahmanada becomes the bell.
Vachana 1096 carries this same inner worship into Pranalingi Sthala. After the mind has seen Kudalasangama Deva’s feet, worship is no longer dependent on outer materials alone: supreme bliss becomes the foot-water, the heart becomes the lotus, longing becomes ārati, great illumination becomes incense, and svānubhava becomes fragrance. What Prasadi 974 presents as the inward order of Linga-worship becomes, here, the direct worship through which Pranalinga becomes visible.
Advancing Vachana
Sharana Sthala Vachana 801 — The Useless Lamp
Sharana Vachana 801 advances this teaching by warning that knowledge, worship, and external illumination are useless if they do not transform the inner being. Iron does not become gold merely by knowing the alchemist’s chant, and a lamp burning in the house is useless if the body’s inner house remains dark.
In Vachana 1096, Basavanna inwardly fulfills Ashtavidha Archana and Shodashopachara, offering bliss, heart, longing, illumination, and svānubhava until Pranalinga becomes visible. In Vachana 801, this matures into Sharana Sthala as total offering: worship must not remain inwardly partial or externally bright while the inner house remains dark. The Pranalingi worship of the inner lotus advances into Sharana wholeness, where the whole being is offered without division before Kudalasangama Deva.
