Vachana 1202 — The Guru Beyond Doubt

Summary

Basavanna traces a sustaining sequence: the body is held by Prakriti, Prakriti by Prana, Prana by Knowledge, and Knowledge by Guru.

Guru, Linga, Jangama, and Prasada therefore belong to one living sacred continuity. Those who divide them through the opposing categories of Saguna and Nirguna fall into doubt and lose the integrity of their vow.

Basavanna asks Kudalasangama Deva not to show him the faces of such doubters.

Editorial Commentary

The repeated Kannada expression indicates holding or sustaining, not merely chronological creation. The sequence describes dependence and support rather than a simple order of production.

Prakriti is the natural or material ground of embodied form.

Prana is living vitality. The line does not introduce a system of breath-control or subtle channels.

Knowledge is awakened understanding, not accumulated information.

Guru is the sustaining source of that Knowledge.

Saguna and Nirguna are not declared false. The error is using them to fragment Guru, Linga, Jangama, and Prasada or to create doubt about their sacred unity.

The final refusal to see the doubters’ faces expresses protection from spiritually divisive company. It is not a general rejection of sincere inquiry.
