Summary
Basavanna warns the seeker not to cry that dharma is lost when cattle are taken by thieves. Loss, shouting, and anxious searching do not mean that the inner ground has collapsed.
Dharma is not the same as possession, security, or circumstance. Cattle may be lost, people may gather here or there, but dharma remains one when bhava remains undivided.
The teaching comes to ekobhava: one undivided inward state before Kudalasangama Deva.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The stolen cattle represent outer loss. Basavanna does not deny the loss, but refuses to make it the measure of dharma.
Crying out, shouting, and searching show agitation. The mind believes that spiritual ground has been shaken because outward support is disturbed.
The gatherings here and there show changing place and company. Basavanna points beyond these divisions to ekobhava.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches steadiness amid change. Possession, loss, place, and company should not divide awareness.
For Pranalingi Sthala, dharma must become inwardly steady, not dependent on what is gained or lost.
The practice-point is direct: do not let disturbance divide bhava. Remain in ekobhava before Kudalasangama Deva.
Editorial Commentary
Ekobhava should remain central. Basavanna is not asking the seeker to neglect worldly responsibility. He is correcting the deeper error of equating dharma with possession or circumstance.

Sharana Vachana 342 advances this teaching by dissolving ownership altogether. There, Basavanna asks how he can worship or offer anything when he lives in Kudalasangama Deva’s house, sustained by what the Lord provides.
In Vachana 830, outer loss does not destroy dharma. In Vachana 342, this matures into Sharana Sthala as total dependence: nothing is self-owned, nothing is finally lost, and the seeker stands as servant of the servants before Kudalasangama Deva.
