Vachana 267 — The Yoke of Grace

Summary

In this vachana, Basavanna asks to become an ox, a bonded one, and a servant. He seeks no independent standing.

His desired place is the house of Kudalasangama Deva’s people. His desired role is to belong to Linga-Jangama.

The teaching is surrendered usefulness: the self made available for the Lord’s Sharanas, without pride of position.

Imagery & Symbolic Relevance

The ox is the first image. It suggests strength placed under direction and made useful.

The servant deepens the surrender. Basavanna does not ask to command, but to be held in service.

The house of Kudalasangama Deva’s people is the field of living devotion. It is where belonging is tested through daily conduct.

Linga-Jangama gives the sacred center. The service is not merely domestic or social; it is joined to the inward Linga and the living Jangama.

The images together lower the self from authority to availability. Basavanna asks to be placed where his strength, movement, and labour serve the sacred.

Lingayoga

In Lingayoga, this vachana turns personal capacity into offering. Strength is not rejected; it is redirected.

The practice-point is direct: do not seek mastery over the path. Become fit to serve Linga-Jangama in the company of Kudalasangama Deva’s people.

For Sharana Sthala, this is servant-belonging. The Sharana’s dignity lies in surrendered participation, not self-importance.

Pranalingi Sthala Vachana 824 — The Moment That Cannot Be Lost

Pranalingi Vachana 824 supports this teaching by showing the life-sustaining importance of right relation with Guru, Linga, and Jangama. Vachana 267 gives that relation a Sharana form: Basavanna asks to live as servant in the house of Kudalasangama Deva’s people, belonging to Linga-Jangama.

Advancing Vachana

Aikya Sthala Vachana 146 — The Arrow from the Divine Bow

Aikya Vachana 146 advances this teaching through servant-like devotion and the arrow released from the Divine bow. Vachana 267 asks to be placed in service; Aikya Vachana 146 carries that surrender into movement wholly directed by Kudalasangama Deva.
