Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna asks not to have his mind tested at every step.
He also asks not to be tormented by being called poor.
His answer is simple: he is not without belonging. He has masters — the Sharanas of Kudalasangama.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
Step-by-step testing is the first image. It shows repeated pressure placed upon the mind.
The mind is the one being examined. Basavanna does not ask for public defense; he asks that the mind not be continually pressed.
Being called poor is the second wound. Poverty here is not only outer lack; it is the label used to diminish him.
The Sharanas of Kudalasangama form the final answer. Basavanna does not claim strength from himself. His dignity comes from having them as his masters.
The movement is from pressure and humiliation to belonging. One who has Kudalasangama’s Sharanas is not abandoned.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana shows the stabilizing power of Sharana-belonging.
The practice-point is direct: do not let repeated testing or the name “poor” define the mind. Take refuge in the Sharanas of Kudalasangama Deva.
For Sharana Sthala, this is refuge through living belonging.
Editorial Commentary
The Kannada is brief and should remain brief. The word odeyaru should retain the sense of masters or rightful lords, not merely companions. Basavanna’s strength here is not self-assertion, but the declaration that he belongs to Kudalasangama’s Sharanas.

Pranalingi Sthala Vachana 857 — Not Time, but Becoming that Binds
Pranalingi Vachana 857 supports this teaching by saying that those who are not Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas are swallowed by Aham, the subtle self-claim. Vachana 324 gives the Sharana form of that protection: Basavanna is not poor or ownerless, because the Sharanas of Kudalasangama are his masters.

Aikya Sthala Vachana 1071 — The Comets of Criticism
Aikya Vachana 1071 advances this teaching by showing the Sharana remaining steady while fault-finders pass like comets. Vachana 324 asks not to be repeatedly tested or diminished as poor; Aikya Vachana 1071 shows the matured state where external judgment has no lasting force before Kudalasangama Deva.
