Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna describes the arrival of Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas as the recovery of life.
Their coming is like finding water in a wilderness, like a blind person gaining sight, and like a poor person finding treasure.
The seeker’s thirst, blindness, and poverty are relieved by Sharana-sanga. Basavanna says that through the coming of the Sharanas, his very life is found.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
The wilderness is the first image. It suggests dryness, exposure, and the danger of being without support.
To find water in such a place is to find life where life seemed impossible. The Sharanas arrive in this way: as nourishment in a field of lack.
The blind person gaining sight gives the second image. This is not only comfort, but restored perception. The seeker begins to see because living truth has come near.
The poor person finding treasure gives the third image. Poverty represents lack of inner wealth. Treasure represents the abundance of bhakti and realization.
The three images move together: thirst is met by water, blindness by sight, poverty by treasure.
Basavanna applies all three to the coming of Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas. Their presence does not merely encourage him; it restores his life.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, Sharana-sanga is a living means of renewal.
The Anga may become dry, blind, or poor when cut off from realized presence. Practice may continue, but its vitality weakens.
The arrival of the Sharanas brings nourishment, vision, and inward wealth. Their presence awakens what self-effort alone cannot sustain.
Practice matures when the seeker recognizes sacred company as life-giving grace from Kudalasangama Deva.
