Summary
In this vachana, Basavanna says that words may be spoken in a way that pleases the ear.
But pleasing speech does not make one a Bhakta. Nor is one made a Bhakta merely by doing good acts.
The deeper measure belongs to the Sharanas who have arisen in the face of Linga. Basavanna asks how the Bhakti-treasure of Kudalasangama’s Sharanas can become possible for him, and asks the Father to tell him.
Imagery & Symbolic Relevance
Ear-pleasing speech is the first image. It shows words that sound beautiful, but sound alone does not prove Bhakti.
Good action is the next test. Basavanna does not dismiss right action, but he says that action by itself does not make one a Bhakta.
Artha, prana, and abhimana form the deeper field. Wealth, life-breath, and self-regard must not remain as separate possessions.
The Sharanas who arise before Linga give the true measure. Their Bhakti is not merely spoken or performed; it is lived in direct relation to Linga.
The Bhakti-treasure is the final image. Basavanna does not claim it as already his. He asks how it may become possible.
Lingayoga
In Lingayoga, this vachana tests speech and action by lived relation to Linga.
The practice-point is direct: do not rely on pleasant words or good acts alone. Let wealth, life-breath, and self-regard be brought before Linga in the way known by Kudalasangama’s Sharanas.
For Sharana Sthala, this is humility before the Bhakti-treasure.
Editorial Commentary
The Kannada should not be expanded into a rejection of speech or good action. Basavanna is refusing to let either one stand as sufficient proof of Bhakti. The central question remains his own: how can the Bhakti-treasure of Kudalasangama’s Sharanas become possible?

Vachana 319 asks how the Bhakti-treasure of the Sharanas can become possible; Aikya Vachana 1380 shows that treasure fulfilled as one shared life with Guru, Linga, and Jangama before Kudalasangama Deva.
