Vachana 1192 — Jangama Seva Is the Eternal Path

Summary

Basavanna presents Jangama Seva in six inseparable forms: it is Guru-puja, Linga-puja, one’s very being, one’s truth, the Self, and the Eternal State.

Because Chandayya lived with Jangama as his very life, Basavanna calls himself Chandayya’s long-standing spiritual son. By taking refuge at his sacred feet, he became purified.

Before Kudalasangama Deva, Basavanna asks how he could ever measure the fullness of such a great being.

Editorial Commentary

The six declarations must remain distinct. The Kannada does not repeat one general idea six times; it moves from worship into being, truth, Self, and the Eternal State.

One’s being refers to lived existence. It should not be reduced merely to physical sustenance.

One’s truth indicates the devotee’s authentic condition, not a private opinion or intellectual belief.

Self here does not mean personal ego. The sequence removes the separation between the servant, the act of service, and the sacred presence served.

Nityapada, the Eternal State, indicates abiding establishment. It is not a future reward obtained through service.

The description of Chandayya as one whose life was Jangama means that Jangama-awareness governed his entire living. It does not identify him merely as a ritual attendant.

Basavanna’s sonship expresses spiritual inheritance. Refuge at Chandayya’s feet, rather than biological relation, is the basis of that sonship.
