Vachana 430 — The Consecration of Perception

Summary

In this vachana, Basavanna offers every faculty of perception and life toward Jangama and Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

He says that the nourishment of the eyes is to see Jangama, the nourishment of the ears is to hear Jangama, the nourishment of smell is to receive Jangama, and the nourishment of the tongue is to speak of Jangama.

He then extends the offering beyond the senses. Covering, protection, deep love, and all substances are to be given to Jangama and to Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

The teaching is direct: devotion becomes complete when seeing, hearing, smelling, speaking, love, protection, and possession are all turned into service of living sacred presence.

Imagery & Symbolic Relevance

The eyes are the first image. Their true nourishment is not scattered seeing, but seeing Jangama.

The ears give the second image. Their true nourishment is hearing Jangama. Listening becomes part of sacred orientation.

The faculty of smell gives the third image. Basavanna includes even this subtle sensory contact within Jangama-centered devotion.

The tongue gives the fourth image. Its nourishment is to speak of Jangama. Speech is not left as ordinary expression; it is turned toward living sacred presence.

The covering or protection offered to Jangama gives the next movement. Devotion is not only inward perception. It becomes embodied care, hospitality, and service.

Deep love is then brought into the offering. Love must ripen into action, not remain only as feeling.

All substances form the final image. Nothing possessed is kept outside the field of offering. Basavanna gives everything to Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

The imagery therefore moves from the senses, to speech, to protection, to love, to all possessions. The whole person becomes oriented toward Jangama and Sharana.

Lingayoga

In Lingayoga, this vachana teaches the consecration of the senses and possessions through Jangama-recognition.

The practice-point is direct: let seeing, hearing, smelling, and speaking be turned toward Jangama. Let love become service. Let what is possessed become offering to Kudalasangama Deva’s Sharanas.

For Sharana Sthala, this is lived Dasoha. The Sharana does not keep perception, affection, shelter, or substance as private possession. All are redirected toward living sacred presence.
